This article is somewhat a rebuke or retaliation to the article we read on the first day of class about if Yoga is Christian or not. I think it makes a lot of good points about the importance of the body in religion and particularly Christianity, which is what we're studying all semester. Reverend Marcia mount states that "The body for Christians was, and is, a crucial point of contact with God.", and comments that some believers need to break out of their Christian straight jacket. What do you guys think? Which article do you think makes better points?

Thanks,

  1. Although I agree that the body can be a great way to practice Christianity, I feel as though it is unfair to make blanket statements such as "The body for Christians was, and is, a crucial point of contact with God." It is my belief that people experience God in many different ways. For some, worship might not involve the body in such a substantial way. I think it is important for variety in Christian practives so that each individual can experience Christ to the fullest.

  2. I agree with what you're saying. I too think that it is somewhat presumptuous to say that the body is a crucial method of contact with God. I guess what can be said from both of these articles and the people who wrote them is that they both have directly opposing views and while neither one of them is completely wrong, they both state their opinions as facts without fully considering the other side. This conveys a major issue in religion today that it is interpreted and practiced by everyone differently.

  3. What does the evidence from Christian (or other religious) sources tell you about this issue? What does your experience say?
