Religious Studies 102 introduces students to post-biblical theology and religious practice and the contexts in which they appear. Through a consideration of representative figures and issues, students analyze and critically evaluate ideas, arguments and points of view. In particular, we consider how concepts of the body are incorporated in religious beliefs and practices.

Ash Wednesday
This semester our readings have revolved around the body and its connection to religion. I've found it interesting but it wasn't until this Ash Wednesday did I fully connect to on a deeper level to what we have been studying. As I waiting in the receiving line, I shifted through the meaning behind the ashes. When I was younger I thought it was gross, smearing stuff on my head. However now, it was much more meaningful. We smear ashes on us because God mad us from ashes, and ashes we will become once again. Seeing the ashes, I began to compare it to baptism. Something so little contains a monumental amount of meaning. I understand how the small actions in our readings have impacted different religions so greatly. By accepting, I agreed to the entire faith that came with the ashes.
