In particular, we consider how concepts of the body are incorporated in religious beliefs and practices.

The article is interesting and I find it fascinating that her ideas that came as "flashes" were like visions that evolved into a book. This reminds me of the sermon we read for class with the reference to "how we can live a life full of love, abundance, joy and compassion, effortlessly" and how the grace of god manifests itself in the sermon.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Allison. I would love to go more in-depth with the ideas surrounding mysticism. I find it interesting that Nita's visions come in flashes just as Mecthild's did. Based on our discussion in class today, in Mecthild's day it was a semi-accepted practice to relate such "visions." I know Nita's book just released, but it will be interesting to see the reactions to it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both Allison and Court, i would like to learn more about mysticism and how people practice it. The idea of "visions" are foreign to me and the first thing that comes up in my mind when I hear visions is oddly enough Harry Potter. I know Harry Potter has a lot of religious undertone and I wonder if mysticism can be related to the movie? I also think it would be interesting learn more about the applications of mysticism, like if they meet up and worship, or if they practice it on their own?
ReplyDeleteThe first thought I had after reading that was "What do religious authorities think about this book?". I know that Mechthild's writings were criticized because the religious authorities at the time questioned her scholastic authority. I wonder if Nita's level of education has anything to do with how well revered or condemned her book is.
