For those who don't feel like reading my entire blog post (below), I'd still encourage you to read this article about a church in Minnesota that spent $8,000 to purchase prizes to award to people who attended their Easter service last week.

If I had to guess this church is probably not the only church that uses prizes to increase attendance. I even remember my youth group having raffles and drawings to encourage attendance. I personally don't have a problem with churches using incentives, such as prizes to encourage attendance. Many different organizations in various social settings use prizes to encourage antecedence and participation without controversy. I don't see why churches use of such methods should be viewed any differently.
