Church Hub

Somewhat linking to the post below, the Church as Scientology has bought the longest continuously-producing Hollywood studio, to use as a media hub for their followers. Is the link between religion and entertainment becoming this strong? The Church said that with this purchase they can produce 21st century broadcasting to all of their followers. Should other churches or religions try to obtain a media hub like the Church of Scientology to broadcast globally to their followers?

  1. I really like this article. It focuses on a question that many modern Christians ask today. How can the church maintain a balance between tradition and the modern influence? For the Church of Scientology, purchasing a major movie studio was certainly a smart move. With their celebrity spokespeople John Travolta, Katie Holmes, and Tom Cruise, the church is aiming to sppeal to young adults. Utilizing the major film industry will allow them to present their traditional beliefs via a modern tool. I beleive if other churches take advantage of popular media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, movies, magazines, mass texts, and television, they should also be able to appeal to the younger generations.

  2. I honestly don't see scientology as a true religion, because of this I don't think other churches should worry about modernizing their practices. I think modernizing certain faiths would take away from the tradition of the faith. I went to a Catholic high school and from what I was able to gather from my time there, tradition really defines the Catholic faith specifically.
