I go to church in a coffee shop, but I think that some people would say that only churches should be used for religious services. This article got me thinking if you can worship anywhere. What do ya'll think?

I think you can worship anytime, anywhere. I went to a sunrise service in a park on Easter yesterday, and it was a great way for me to appreciate God's creation and the world around me. I think any place can be sacred space. It's not about the building itself, but how you spend that service praising God.
ReplyDeleteI think Churches provide a safe and comfortable place for religious services. Its a place where you can worship privately with your own religious community. That being said, I do not believe that has to be the only place you can worship. I believe that religion is about bringing yourself closer to God and if that happens best when you are in a coffee shop, outside, or anywhere else there is nothing wrong with that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Michelle. The reason to go to church is to be with God. However, if you are able to connect with God more in a field, staring at his creation rather than in a church, then it should be allowed. If finding God is savoring the smell of coffee and the sweet things in life, then so be it. God is God. He is everywhere and to have the ability to find God in other places outside of a sanctuary attests to ones faith.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with what everyone has been saying. Sitting outside staring at the stars or clouds is when I feel closest to God. But I think churches are good places to connect with God because they are quiet and organized. I think that you can spend time with God anywhere, but churches provide a good place to worship because there are not as many distractions as in a coffee shop or something like that.
ReplyDeleteI dont think its just about appreciating what God has created like the Sky or Sun, or that its just about being alone and reflective in a church. I feel that religions are meant to be followed, and that it is disrespectful to buy concessions throughout a church service. Im not even religious but church at a baseball diamond seems inappropriate. Maybe a park without as many distractions is more in order.
ReplyDeleteI feel that as long as you can connect with God, the location of where you are does not matter at all. Those who say yo have to be in a church to be able to reach God, are not really connecting truly with God in church in the first place. God said do not pray out in public so that people will see your actions, pray in your home, in private because that is when God knows you really want to connect with him.
ReplyDeleteI agree with many of these comments; I personally think that worship and religion in general should be focused on the individual rather than the institution. I think that sacred space can be created anywhere as long as it appeals to the individual. Although a coffee shop worship is different from the traditional ideas of meditation and worship in nature, I think that the experience of worship is more important than the structure housing it. Furthermore, part of the reason people find churches so appealing is the fact that they house communities of people that share similar ideas and support each other. However, this is not unique to churches or Christianity for that matter. The same community found in churches can be found in other groups of people regardless of where they worship whether it be in nature or in a coffee shop.
