Religious Studies 102 introduces students to post-biblical theology and religious practice and the contexts in which they appear. Through a consideration of representative figures and issues, students analyze and critically evaluate ideas, arguments and points of view. In particular, we consider how concepts of the body are incorporated in religious beliefs and practices.

Protecting fellow people of God in the midst of protests in Egypt
Hey everybody! I saw this picture on facebook, and it made me smile. In an age of polarity and intolerance, this picture makes me very proud to call these individuals brothers and sisters. http://imgur.com/NhC4m
That's really amazing, and I'm glad that there are some people willing to risk their own lives to protect others. It actually makes me think of Friday's reading about a common word/ground. Christians pray, and Muslims do too and merely allowing them to do something that we're allowed to do freely (pray) is a beautiful notion. I think it's important for us as human beings to be willing to accept others. Christianity and Islam aren't meant to be beakers of separation, more so to allow others to worship in the way that they so choose.
I agree with both Hannah and Charles. This is a great sight to see. After learning more about the Muslim religion and its traditions, it is easy to see that prayer is a major part of their lives. It takes a lot of courage to pray in such an open setting, especially in such a violent setting. It is very comforting to see others encouraging their brothers and sisters under God. Hopefully, others can see this image. Maybe then, we could all open our minds and welcome religions all over the world
I thought Friday's class discussion was really interesting, along with a common word between us and you. It was really informative to see how much of the bible and the Quran had in common. Also, seeing that the muslims (who are portrayed so poorly in the news today) were the ones to initiate this dialogue that will hopefully bring the 2 religions together.
The notion that a single image can speak a thousand words is clearly represented in this picture. It's comforting to know that in a time of need, we can put aside our differences and help the dear neighbor. I agree with Charles in that this image brings to mind our reading on "The Common Ground." This imagine depicts the common ground that both Muslims and Christians share, that being the desire for prayer. It is remarkable that these individuals were willing to risk their lives on the behalf of others, enabling them to freely practice their religion in the midst of crisis. Additionally, I believe this picture represents our future; a future where all religions can work together in order to achieve a common goal: peace.
