Church Membership Decline
I found this article that talked about the decline in membership in the main Protestant and Catholic churches, while there is an increase in membership in Pentecostal churches. This was surprising to me, because I don't know many people who are members of Pentecostal churches. Do you guys have any thoughts on this?

The growth of the Pentecostal churches surprises me. The Pentecostal Church practices the literal meaning of the bible. They participate in activities such as foot washing and public repentance. Historically, generations become more liberal and less conservative as time progresses. So it is odd that there would be an increase in a church that implements a strict interpretation of the bible as opposed to a church that enforces a less literal interpretation.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting article. The rise of membership of the Pentecostal church surprises me, as well as a decline in membership in churches such as the Methodist and Lutheran churches. Where I live the majority of people are Catholic, Methodist or Lutheran, and barely any belong to a Pentecostal congregation. As Claire pointed out, it is very interesting that a church that practices a very literal interpretation would gain popularity in todays times.
